Hirekolale – The Beautiful lake in Chikmagalur

Just imagine an early morning, pleasant weather, an isolated beautiful lake, surrounded by huge mountains, a view point at the center of the lake and you standing there, with a cup of hot coffee…. Isn’t that a fantastic feeling ??  :D. This imagination can be turned real. Yes, Hirekolale lake which is in Chikmagalur can fetch such great feeling  <3.

Hirekolale lake is just 10kms journey from the center of Chikmagalur. It is a beautiful man-made lake, which was built as a purpose of water supply to the town and irrigation to farms. The way to reach Chikmagalur is mentioned in Mullayyanagiri – Highest Peak of Karnataka !. We had stayed in Basavanahalli.

We had planned to leave to Bengaluru the next day. In the mean time, Teju’s relative suggested a visit to this lake early morning. Now I thank him, for that suggestion. It was worth visiting  :).  It can be visited throughout the year.

Next day, Early morning at 7am we started driving to Hirekolale. This place can be easily accessed from the town of Chikmagalur. Drive through Mallandur Road, take a right at Uppalli and continue ahead. On the way, we can see lots of coffee estates. The tall silver oak trees appeared to be grown to touch the sky. The road is a divine full of greenery  🙂

After spending enough time at this peaceful place, we started walking towards the road. Then washed our red mud messed up legs 😀 and boarded the vehicle.

We reached Chikmagalur and had Masala Dose at Mayura hotel. I would suggest  to buy Chikmagalur coffee, which will be useful when it rains in Bengaluru 😀 <3. You would thank me for this :P.

We started driving towards Bengaluru, On the way, we stopped at Hassan to witness Belur – Insights of Hoysala Architecture. After exploring Belur, we drove to Bengaluru.

    1. There are no timings as such. This is a lake on the roadside, so you can visit whenever you want. The best time would be early mornings when the lake is fogged up and gives lovely views of Mullayyanagiri
